The Melbourne International Film Festival won't be screening director Bruce LaBrue's L.A. Zombie. The gay hardcore horror flick was refused a classification exemption by the Australian Film Classification Board. The film's implied sex with dead bodies by an alien zombie breached local community standards.
Although, the same board will allow L.A. Zombie to be released as an adults-only DVD in Australia, if it were submitted for classification.
L.A. Zombie is headlined by popular gay porn star François Sagat. It also stars Rocco Giovanni, Wolf Hudson, Eddie Diaz, Matthew Rush, Erik Rhodes, Francesco D'Macho and Adam Killian. It was made for less than $100,000 in Los Angeles last year.
L.A. Zombie is about a blue alien zombie that roams the streets of Los Angeles looking for corpses to reanimate through sex. Of course, this could just be the schizophrenic delusions of a buff homeless man.
Bruce LaBruce: "My first thought was Eureka. I'll never understand how censors don't see that the more they try to suppress a film, the more people will want to see it. It gives me a profile I didn't have yesterday."
When L.A. Zombie arrives on DVD, softcore and hardcore releases are planned.
