Papi Chulo's BLOG proudly presents an exclusive interview series titled "In Bed with Papi Chulo." This series will feature the hottest stars in mainstream and adult media.
Justin Slayer International exclusive director General Moe is celebrating his 12th year of filming this month. General Moe may have picked up the camcorder twelve years ago, but it was a lucky day three years ago at the AVN Convention in Las Vegas that changed his life. It was there that he ran into Justin Slayer, and after a quick peek at the General's camcorder, Slayer knew he was about business.
That brief encounter led to a meeting ... and the meeting led to General Moe's first porn set visit. On his first porn set visit, General Moe was put to the test. Slayer put him to shoot a girl in the shower. Slayer and business partner HJ were pretty impressed.
General Moe started doing "ghost" work for the company. Some of his scenes can be seen in MERC, Booty I Like 3, Ass Everywhere, Mami Culo Grande 4 and Bootlegs & B-Sides. With the launch of his HandSteady Visuals, General Moe (along with JSI) released his first official title, The Hot, Wet & Sexy. His most recent release is Latin Sheet Freaks.
I sat down with the General to chat about how he got into the adult industry ... his his distinct camera style ... his favorite porn starlets to shoot ... his work with Justin Slayer International ... and his future plans in the industry ...
Papi Chulo: How long have you been working in the adult industry?
General Moe: I've been in since February of 2006.
PC: How did you get into the adult industry?
GM: The way I got in the industry was probably a "one out of a hundred" chance. Very rare and different. In fact, it will probably make some people that have been trying to get in for a long period of time frown, due to how easy things happened for me. It was overnight it seemed. And I wasn't even aiming to be working in the field of adult.
Back in 2006, being that adventurous, independent videographer, I took a drive up to the AVN Convention in Las Vegas, which had been a regular routine for me since 2002. I would go there to film the porn girls at the booths for my personal use. This particular year, I was filming throughout the day and took a short break to talk to a few people that knew me from going to the conventions in California. So, as I'm standing next to one of the booths, I see Justin Slayer. He's talking to someone a little down from me and I'm thinking like, "Oh, that's the Slayer dude right there that does those shots like me in his movies." Like a minute or two later, he was walking passed me and I said, "What's up" to him, shook his hand and gave him his well deserved proper respect on his movies. I had just saw one of the Phatty Girls movies a few weeks before that, so I told him this, "You film girls like me", in a mellow tone. He was like, "Oh yeah? Cool!" He seemed like a real dude, so I asked him a few things like, "Who showed you that style?" And he said he used to film for the internet. I asked him that, because it really surprised me when I saw it in his movies. At the time it seemed like nobody was really making that special effort of showing off a girl's ass so well in natural sunlight.
So the conversation continued for like six or seven minutes. Then he glanced down at my camera and saw that I had things added to it. And from that moment, he knew I was doing something serious. I refuse to say the part of the camera he saw. He told me to send him a 20 minute demo of footage, and I took him up on that. I remember that the last thing I said to him was, "You'll be pretty impressed when you see it," as he was walking away. The first DVD I sent, he told me he didn't get it, and that alone was nerve-racking because somebody could have gotten there hands on it and used that footage because it wasn't marked. The second time I went directly to the Evil Angel office and made the drop. I got the call back from Justin Slayer himself in a matter of days. He was very excited and explained what would take place next. He also expressed that he was looking for a new camera man and that they are hard to find. I even saved the message on my phone so my boys could hear it. After that, the meeting was set up and I met up with him in the Valley at 12pm sharp!
PC: Were you always a fan of the porn industry?
GM: No, not really a hardcore fan. But I did check for that next fine female that would enter the adult industry from time to time. Somewhat curious about things, but never to the point where I would buy a lot of movies. I used to always want to go to a porn set to see how it was being done.
Personally, since I was real young, I was always infatuated with sexy, long-legged models. That sophisticated, tall, polished-up female with the walk. The ones that make you say, "Damn! I gotta get my life
together." That kind!
PC: How did you come up with your porn name?
GM: My name came about being that I normally take the initiative and hold it down in any difficult situation, be it filming or my everyday life. Anybody that knows me will attest to that. Given the opportunity or when it becomes a crunch time situation, I will definitely get it done. You have to be persistent and have a certain level of confidence to be a general. You have to be a leader and be willing to.
PC: Were you always interested in filming porn?
GM: No, not at all. I never even gave it a thought. People would always tell me that I would be real good at filming it, due to seeing my amateur footage and voyeur styles. I was in my own world and happy with what I was doing independently. It was all about trying to shoot classy and sexy women. Mainly the exoticness.
My eye is just totally different, so I knew I would stick out amongst the many other videographers in the adult business. My whole approach is different and I can shoot in many styles. Being diverse is very important to me, because I was taught to be different in life and run left when you see everybody going right. So in other words, my mind is trained to not be like anyone else's when it comes to being creative. Everything I shoot, I like to treat it like it's my last day to live, and that's one way I keep the quality on a high level. I have seen videographers just blow scenes with sexy ass females due to being lazy with those cameras, and there's no excuse for that. It's a waste of time and money. I remember peeping movies out here and there and just wishing videographers would do certain things with the camera. Move this way, move that way, stay here and stay their longer. I just don't get it.
PC: What was your first day on a porn set like?
GM: My first day I was put to the test without knowing it ahead of time. (LOL) I had to shoot Anell Lopez in the shower. Imagine that. And I didn't have a butterfly in my stomach. I was happy and ready to be around a nice productive atmosphere with my camera. That was the first time I had ever been on a porn set period. I just remember not knowing how to work the still camera fast enough. (LOL) I wasn't used to using one anymore, not since the late 80s.
After reviewing the tape, Justin Slayer and HJ were pretty impressed. And knew right away that with a little time, training and practice, I would get better and better each time I shot something. They showed me some of those basic things that makes a scene look good.
PC: Who have been your favorite porn stars to shoot?
GM: Emy Reyes, Sophia Costello, Pinky, Kapri Styles and Elena Heiress ... the softest ass in the game.
When I first got in the industry, it was Millian Blu. I shot her first three scenes and she was new also. We had real good chemistry together and it used to go real smooth. Scene #1 in the movie MERC is one.
As for Pinky, it's because I was new to shooting in the game, and this was the first official scene I felt that made Justin Slayer and HJ approve of me being on the team with them. I had never seen a female that had such a passion when having sex. I ended up shooting her with Justin Slayer in back-to-back scenes that day (Ass Everywhere and Bootlegs & B-Sides). The girl was highly active and good to look at. Her ass was insanely nice. I was literally in shock while shooting the scene, and looking at her like I had never seen a female before. Justin Slayer told HJ to take over for a while, because he was worried about me. (LOL) The girl straight blew my mind while I was capturing the action ... literally.
It's fun shooting the girls with Slay, because it's all natural from beginning to end. It's always something crazy something going on. Jokes and a lot of unpredictable things. You never know how that scene is going to be, because it's like a little adventure. And out the blue, a lot of times, I might be making a quick stop by the office and Slay might walk in out of nowhere and say, "You got the camera? I got a new girl. Let's shoot her somewhere." This has happened many of times.
As far as male performers, I've only shot with Justin Slayer International's inside talent. Justin Slayer, CJ Wright, Prince Yahshua, Nat Turnher and Deep Threat on and off. I love shooting with all of them. Especially with Prince, because he's a real cool dude. He's one of the realest you'll ever meet in this game. Just like myself.
PC: Is there a particular starlet you enjoy shooting the most?
GM: I would have to say Miss Emy Reyes. I like her personality, innocent looks, plus she's a good performer and a hard worker whenever we shoot something. The type that will actually go out of her way to make sure the scene is hot. She definitely brings the best out of me and my camera ... my little buddy. (LOL)
Kapri Styles is another one I like to shoot. Kapri is definitely a live soul, very upbeat and keeps everything fun. Always clowning around and she makes you forget about a bad day, if you're having one. Definitely a winner in my books.
Sophia Costello because she's nice and her body is so shapely. She has one of the best asses I have ever seen in my life. The girl has some serious power going on. (LOL) Her and my boy Nat Turnher make perfect scenes together. Excellent chemistry. I couldn't imagine shooting her with anyone else. Their scenes are hot! Big Booty Revenge and the new ones.
PC: What do you enjoy most about filming scenes?
GM: With the scenes, a shallow-minded person would probably say the girls. But for me, it's way deeper than just putting a camera up to a girl. I enjoy the challenge of getting the perfect shot, or the challenge of perfecting the shot I'm doing at that particular time. It's all mental for me, and I tune everything out. I'm constantly thinking and trying to create new shots. If you call my name, I won't hear you, because I'll be deeply focused in my perfection mode. Ask Slay, half of the time I don't hear him ask me to quit filming. (LOL)
For me, the art of it is when I get the feel of how the female's personality is ahead of time, and I literally place her in that special tailor-made tease for her. It's fun and creative. During the scene, I like for the male and female talent to just have fun and have sex like in their normal life. If I shoot a scene for someone else, I keep the same routine going. Do it and try to out do what I did last. I give it my all no matter who I'm shooting for on JSI. You're getting all of me. Some videographers will tone it down. I can't do that, because at the end of the day it's still something that is going to represent you and your name.
PC: Is there anything that you do not enjoy about the adult industry?
GM: I can say that I really don't care to be around the people that don't take it serious, as far as producing good work and handling business the right way. The female that comes on my set dissin' other directors and telling me a lot of negative things, they'll do the same thing with others about me. I don't need to work with you at all.
PC: Are you an exclusive director with Justin Slayer International (JSI) ?
GM: Yep, I am.
PC: Are there any other companies you would have liked (or still would like) to shoot for?
GM: Oh no. And if I wasn't with JSI, I wouldn't want to be in the business. I like to be on top, with the number one team, with everything I get into. Plus I'm extremely loyal and once you have me, you have me till the end. Unless I'm not being respected or cheated. I stand up and try to protect the name JSI like it's a damn street gang. If you say the wrong thing, or put my name or anyone else's from the team in jeopardy, then you will have some serious issues. I'm a cool soul, but not that cool to let you talk bad about my team. Definitely not having that. I'm not a "industry guy."
PC: So you shoot for Justin Slayer International and your company, HandSteady Visuals. How does that work?
GM: Well before there was JSI, I was shooting for Justin Slayer Productions. This was before Justin Slayer and HJ left Evil Angel and got their own distribution. HandSteady Visuals is my company with distribution from JSI. So I shoot my movies and I shoot some scenes for Justin Slayer's movies. And I'm open to shoot other director's movies on JSI also. In other words, if needed, I have every director on JSI's back. I'm a director of my own movies, and I'm kind of like an in-house producer also. Like how Dr. Dre would be to Aftermath Records. Like Swizz Beatz was to Ruff Ryders.
Here is a handful of my credits. MERC: scene #1 - Millian Blu. Booty I Like 3: four scenes. Booty I Like 4. Booty I Like 5: Kirra Lynne and Katie Cummings scenes. Ass Everywhere: classic Pinky scene. Ass Everywhere 2. Ass Everywhere 4: two scenes. I was nominated for Best Big Butt Series for Mami Culo Grande 4. Mami Culo Grande 5. Bootlegs & B-Sides: classic Pinky scene. Bootlegs & B-Sides 2. Black Girls Get Nasty Too 2.
PC: Tell me a bit about what goes on during a typical day on a porn set.
GM: Well for me, I normally set it up for like 11am. My make-up artist comes in and does make-up for like an hour, while I look around and see exactly how I want to do things for the scene. I also help my photographer set up his lights, then I go chill with the make-up artist, while she does the make-up on the female talent. This is the perfect time to get some footage for behind-the-scenes. Plus, at the same time, I'm still testing the girl's personality while doing so. Normally my shoots go real smooth, without any kind of controversy.
There's this big misconception where people think it's simple and anybody can come in and do what we do. Some even write it all off and say, "It's just a bunch of wild people on a set smoking, drinking and sexing each other." But that's far from the truth. You'll never get work done if it's being ran like that. There's the paperwork, photos, set-up, make-up and many other things you have to do. This is a business that requires a lot of time and patience.
PC: Since you had done so much "ghost" work before ... What was it like to officially direct and produce your first title The Hot, Wet & Sexy?
GM: It feels the same, but the only thing is you are the man. You run the whole operation. And as I stated earlier, as a general, I know how to take charge and hold it down in any difficult situation. So, I'm basically built for this and I love it. Who wouldn't wanna be a boss in charge and see pretty females all day? It's a beautiful thing.
If you ever saw a credit in a Justin Slayer movie saying "Film Bullies" that was a name I used at that time.
PC: Tell me a little about the production of The Hot, Wet & Sexy.
GM: It went real smooth. Vanessa Cruz was the first female I ever worked with as a director. I just went in and executed it. I learned by watching Justin Slayer and HJ do it. And it's not easy. Not anyone can come in and be a director. One thing I remember is that I shot things for a long time. I have toned it down a little since. Before I was shooting way too much out of just being happy that I could do it. That's why the Katie Cummings teas was so long in The Hot, Wet & Sexy and the scene that's just Katie and Greedy going at it. I let them go. I remember being at Diana DeVoe's house and her telling me to hurry up while shooting Kapri Styles. (LOL) But for the most part, everything went well.
PC: What was it like to see the first title you directed in stores?
GM: It was wild at first, because I kept getting calls and pictures texted to me from the stores all over the country from friends. In a way, I've gotten used to seeing my stuff in stores due to me shooting so many scenes for Justin Slayer over the years. It seems the same really, if you ask me.
PC: You are known for your "tease" shots ... What goes into filming the perfect tease for a DVD?
GM: It's knowing how the girl's personality is in most cases. What she likes, what turns her on and how great of a listener she is. Some are just naturals, but I tailor-make every tease. I can come up with one in three minutes. You can ask any female that has been in front of my lens how quick I come up with stuff.
PC: Have you ever filmed a male or female performer that wasn't giving you exactly what you wanted in the scene? How did you correct the situation?
GM: I've never had any problems, yet. I explain it to them before we start. Sometimes I have to touch up on it while in the middle of shooting by whispering.
PC: Have you ever been in a situation where a male performer is having wood problems? If so, how did you deal with it?
GM: I've never experienced that. Everyone at JSI are good and very professional at what they do. Justin Slayer, Prince Yahshua, HJ, CJ Wright, Nat Turnher and Greedy. Never any problems and I don't really shoot outside of the team at this point.
PC: How would you describe your filming style?
GM: Well my main style of film is truly "the art of sexy." It's smooth, pretty, very aggressive, detailed, creative, angular and technical. I cater it to every man and woman in different styles and speeds, because I shoot it so that you can see everything from head to toe. If you look at the teases closely, you might see that it has an erotic modeling feel and influence to it.
PC: Where did your filming style come from?
GM: It all comes from the streets. For me, that's where I developed my shots back in the 1990s. The angles, the time and all. I am and will always be that raw, aggressive videographer. As far as influences goes, you can say Buttman (John Stagliano) was one of them. He was the first one I saw shooting for a long time on streets. That gonzo type of style. Shooting on streets made me become highly aggressive and persistent, because when you shoot on the streets in public places, you basically only have one chance to get that good natural shot from a person. And that's why my style is so aggressive in adult. I waste no time, because I know it won't be the same with a second round. It will be kind of forced.
PC: What made you pick up the camera in the first place?
GM: It all comes from the 1990s. Back in 1997, I was at Venice Beach with a couple of friends. One of them told me to hold their camcorder while we were walking down the beach boardwalk. As we were leaving, my boy said to me, "If you see any bad females man. Hit record." I saw some a few minutes later and recorded them. When we got back home, I looked at it and I liked the way it looked.
That same year, I bought a new Hi-8 Sony camcorder, and started going down to Venice Beach every Sunday. Because anyone that used to go to Venice Beach back then knows that Sunday was the day, and I enjoyed every minute of it. In those times, there was no internet. And I was getting away with a lot of good taping with the ladies.
When the 2000s came in, things began to get a little more challenging. And the ladies started to complain a lot. So I started going out of town to places like Miami and Daytona Beach, Florida. And it was like a kid in a candy shop, because the women were nicer and just wanted to be videotaped. I have years of very good footage from Florida. Sick footage that would make you say, "How did you get away with that?" Or "Damn! How did you get her to do that?!?"
PC: Have you mentored any up-and-coming directors?
GM: No, not any professional directors. But, I have with internet site owners. I had about three guys I used to show a lot of my tricks and technical things to in the 90s and 2000s. I also shred my ideas. Big mistake. Basically they learned and got to a decent level, took my styles and became full of themselves. Thinking they were more skilled than the man that actually taught them most of the things that they started doing.
I would breakdown every technical aspect of the camera to them ... questions asked or not asked. I basically mentored them. I actually told them too much instead of letting them learn from experience. The importance of having good lights, lenses, what's special about angles, where to buy certain things, brands and the dos and don'ts. The worse thing is that they took my ideas and actually used them to the point to where they would mess up my technique while I would shoot with them, same footage and all. And it became a serious problem for me, being that I had plans to use my footage in the future. I'll never share ideas again, you couldn't pay me to do it.
PC: Did anyone mentor you in the industry?
GM: I would have to say Justin Slayer and HJ on that. They knew I was hungry and ready to step up with the skills I possessed. I don't think they would have invested any time in someone that possessed skills, but didn't want to do anything with them. Why would they?
PC: Have you ever thought about joining your fellow counterparts (like HJ, CJ Wright, Prince Yahshua and Justin Slayer) and performing in front of the camera?
GM: That's funny because a girl on my set asked me this the other day. Nah. I would never do it. It's not my thing and I'm a very private person. I've never been in front of a camera at all in my 12 years of holding them. Amateur or professional.
PC: How and when did you lose your virginity?
GM: I was 14.
PC: What do you enjoy doing sexually?
GM: 69 with the right female, and I enjoy seeing a woman's ass move in doggystyle!
PC: Do you get into any kinds of fetishes?
GM: I have a sexy back and nice ass fetish. Built legs, thighs and tits also. (LOL)
PC: Describe one of your hottest sexual encounters.
GM: All I'll say is I woke up and was getting head from her without asking. (LOL)
PC: Have you ever linked up with any of the starlets you have filmed?
GM: Hmm... maybe. (LOL)
PC: Have you ever been involved (relationship-wise) with a starlet?
GM: Oh nah. Never have and I never will. Of course there are some that really attract me physically. Emy Reyes. Katie Cummings is cute. I like Vanessa Cruz. She's a pretty little redbone. Destiny Deville and Lily Thai were bad ass females when they were around. I don't get involved at all though. I rarely even befriend them, because you really have to watch who you are friends with in the business. People talk for nothing and stories can get turned into something negative. It just happened to me recently. A lie was told by a crazy girl in front of a certain person and they ran with the lie. I say, "Hi" and "Bye" to most these days.
PC: In your personal life ... Who are some of your dream women or a woman you would love to date?
GM: Julissa Bermudez, formerly of BET. I love that chick. She's my type. Mya. I've always had a big thing going for that girl. Cassie. She's gorgeous. I'm drawn to slim girls these days. I love 'em thick and all, but the slim goodies hold a special place with me. Plus, the pussy seems to be deeper and snugs better. (LOL)
PC: Do you have a favorite director?
GM: Well no, not really. I actually tune a lot of them out. One reason is for the sake of not wanting to know what anyone else is doing and not knowing what's hot at the time. But, I do enjoy Lexington Steele and Tina Tyler's stuff. Justin Slayer's a good director in many ways also. That's it though. I ignore a lot. You wouldn't believe it. The top directors or companies in the game, I wouldn't even tell you their names. And I really could care less who's the big name everybody's talking about. I'm just about putting out solid work and keeping the JSI team above the rim. I mind my own business and stay out of the light. I'm taking the path of the unknown rich man that's in the background.
PC: In your private life ... What adult titles do you like to watch?
GM: I watch classic Vanessa Del Rio compilations. I like Peter North's North Pole series. He gets bad white females. Lexington Steele's Black Reign is always a treat. He picks fine females also. Tina Tyler's Super Whores line is good. There's a couple of ManDingo lines that I like also. ManDingo Black is one. In the early days (2000s), I liked the Jules Jordan title called Ass Worship and Lex the Impaler. No specific titles, but any movie with Lily Thai in it. I love looking at that girl. Oh wait! The BOZ movie Slay and HJ dropped in 2004 with her. And this one called Bitches In Heat has real good scenes with her. They stay in my players at home. I watch a lot of volumes of the same titles. I don't collect a large variety of different brands.
PC: What are you into outside of the adult industry?
GM: I'm into collecting and watching documentaries. Collecting that classic rare Hip-Hop. I like to shop, peep out certain types of art, hustle and chill with my street team ... my foundation friends. And just to think, some of them used to laugh at me when I would have my camcorder in hand back in the days. I used to be a big club hopper, but these days I'm more of a homebody in a way.
PC: Your latest project with Justin Slayer International is a Latin-themed film titled Latin Sheet Freaks ... Tell me a little about its production.
GM: Well first of all, any person that knows me well, knows that I love Latina women a lot. So this time around, I went out and shot all of the Latinas that I thought were sexy. It became difficult at first, because the weather wouldn't cooperate. I was frustrated for a long time. It would rain for weeks straight and I couldn't get off the shots I wanted outside.
I took everything to the next level production-wise. A little more creative and a little more variety. Some stuff might be shot faster than others. That's how I like for my production to be. Every scene shot differently, because I look at my movies in a "artsy" type of way. Like it's a collage, or a gumbo with different ingredients and flavors.
PC: What are your future plans in the industry?
GM: I'll just say this ... The Hot, Wet & Sexy, that was my introduction DVD and I have a lot in store. I'm about to take people on a serious ride style-wise, because my stuff is going to be very diverse, and it will never be predictable. One thing will be is running a distribution company with all new directors. By that time I'm sure the internet will be running the game completely, so it will be geared towards that.
PC: How can your fans reach you?
GM: Through email, [email protected].
PC: Now I am going to ask you seven questions that I like to call "Papi Chulo's LIST." These seven questions have been asked to all of my interview subjects. The first question is ... What are your Top 5 favorite television shows?
GM: I only like the old shows. My all time faves are What's Happening!!, Good Times, CHiPs, The White Shadow and The A-Team.
PC: McDonald's Big Mac or Burger King's Whopper?
GM: I don't eat neither one these days, but when I did I liked them both.
PC: Disney or Warner Bros?
GM: Warner Bros.
PC: What's your favorite color?
GM: Aqua and red mainly. I have many.
PC: What's your favorite sexual position?
GM: Missionary and doggie. I love ass.
PC: What's your favorite curse word?
GM: I don't really have one, but the one I use if any is bitch.
PC: If you could be anywhere right now ... Where would you be?
GM: On some exotic island chillin’ with some beautiful exotic models. I love 'em.
PC: Well this brings us to the end of our interview ... Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?
GM: Make sure you get my new movie Latin Sheet Freaks. It's hot! Download it first, then buy it. You won't be disappointed! Look for Nat Turnher's new movie. I'm back in the lab with him. Peep the new joints from Justin Slayer. You'll see some new scenes I shot in some of his titles. Look for my new movies. I'm about to go wild with the camera... Remember, General Moe isn't new to holding cameras. I'm just new to the industry. Three years as of now. Peace to my Slauson Ave crew! Shout out to everybody on JSI. All of the directors and staff. Sandee, Rick and Kari. Peace... And I'll stay real as always!
