Interesting news for fans of The Event, NBC's low-rated serialized thriller that got canceled after one season. Syfy is considering developing the second season into a miniseries.
Who knows what could happen if loads of genre fans tune into the miniseries?
The bar is significantly lower for Syfy. When it aired on NBC, The Event averaged 7.13 million viewers. Yet it doesn't hurt that Syfy and The Event producer, Universal Media Studios, are corporate siblings.
It is unclear how many original cast members would return for a miniseries.
NBC has hired celebrity personal trainer Dolvett Quince to join tennis pro Anna Kournikova and veteran Bob Harper on The Biggest Loser.
Dolvett Quince: "I couldn't be more excited about joining The Biggest Loser as their newest trainer. This amazing opportunity allows me to use my expertise to change lives one rep at a time, and encourage contestants— and viewers— to find strength beyond muscle."
Quince founded the Atlanta workout studio called Body Sculptor and has been a "master trainer" in that city for a decade.
President Barack Obama's speech Sunday night announcing the death of Osama bin Laden drew twice as many viewers as last week's Royal Wedding and outpaced his recent policy addresses.
Despite being announced at a late hour on the East Coast, the President's telecast was watched by 56.5 million viewers.
That's more than Obama's recent scheduled and promoted primetime addresses, such as March 28's speech on Libya (25.6 million) and his August speech on Iraq (29.2 million), as well as more than doubling the audience of the Royal Wedding (22.8 million).
The networks carrying the address included ABC, CBS, NBC, Telemundo, Univision, CNN, Fox News Channel, HLN and MSNBC.
In related news... President Obama will sit down with CBS' 60 Minutes on Sunday, May 8 for his first interview after announcing Osama bin Laden's death.
NBC has announced early 2011-12 television season pickups for Community, Parks and Recreation and The Office.
Bob Greenblatt (NBC Entertainment Chairman): "I am so pleased to renew these three outstanding comedies which are all at the top of their game creatively. Along with 30 Rock, they represent the best of what the NBC comedy brand stands for in terms of originality, wit, and sophistication. The Office continues to fire on all cylinders on the most competitive night of television, Parks and Recreation has come into its own this season as the rightful companion to The Office, and Community is one of the freshest comedies on any network and a solid foundation for Thursday night."
Despite a 6am start time on Friday, the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton drew a king-size US audience.
The wedding coverage was carried live from about 6am to 7:15am on 11 networks and drew 22.8 million viewers and 18.6 million households.
That's a larger number of households than watched Prince Charles wed Lady Diana in 1981 (which drew 14.2 million households, with no viewership numbers available). By comparison, about the same number of people watched American Idol's performance show this week (22 million), and 28.9 million watched President Obama's inauguration.
The ceremony from Westminster Abbey was carried by ABC, CBS, NBC, Telemundo, Univision, BBCA, CNN, E!, FOXNC, MSNBC and TLC.
Across the pond, however, Charles and Diana still rule. Nearly 27 million viewers in the UK watched Kate trade vows with William on BBC, ITV or Sky News, compared to the 28.4 million who tuned in for the royal wedding 30 years ago. Friday's ceremony also ranked behind UK coverage of Princess Diana's 1997 funeral.
It appears someone doesn't know how to let go of a grudge...
On NBC's The Celebrity Apprentice, Star Jones and Lisa Rinna were enemies from the getgo. But it seems as if once the cameras stopped filming the hit celebreality competition series, things got uglier.
The Celebrity Apprentice contestants butted heads during the first two episodes, culminating in this week's elimination of Rinna from the competition after she was appointed project manager on a children's book task. Rinna got the dreaded "You're fired!" from Donald Trump after she lost the task and then threw her team under the proverbial bus.
Rinna singled out the former View host, accusing Jones of trying to take full credit for writing the book. But, behind-the-scenes things got a bit worse. Jones claims she has been targeted by Rinna's "foul" tweets and emails. Apparently they were so nasty that Jones has drummed up a team of lawyers.
Jones claims that she's been constantly bad-mouthed by Rinna since the show wrapped. The Celebrity Apprentice began taping in the fall of 2010. All of the episodes, except the live finale, have been shot. To back up her claim, Jones has gathered a series of tweets dating back months and a collection of emails from Rinna and turned them in to NBC's legal department. Jones claims she is being "harassed."
Rinna has yet to comment. But, she has since deleted the offending tweets, including some of Rinna posing with monster masks that feature captions like "Great picture of me and Star Jones!!!" Thankfully, even though Rinna has removed them, many have been archived online.
Jones says such attacks are "evidence of [Rinna's] instability." She also has lawyers from The Trump Organization and from Mark Burnett Productions involved in her fight to quiet Rinna.
NBC announced that it's reduced the episode order of the mideseason romantic dramedy anthology series Love Bites from 13 to 9.
NBC has too much content for its midseason lineup. NBC has yet to find slots for Love Bites, as well as The Paul Reiser Show and Friends with Benefits.
The fall television season has already seen five freshman series casualties (Lone Star, My Generation, The Whole Truth, Undercovers and Outlaw) and the departure of some old favorites (Medium and Life Unexpected).

The major network daytime soap opera is dying a slow death. So, it was surprising when NBC announced the renewal of Days of Our Lives through 2013. But what's disappointing is that the network is having the sudser include the kind of product placement usually reserved for comedies making fun of product placement (i.e. NBC's 30 Rock).
Watching these clips, you can't help but feel sorry for the writers, directors, producers... and, especially, the actors who had to make sure they say the name of the product a certain number of times, wax poetic about the product's benefits to at least one other character and be sure the label on the package is ready for its close-up.

Almost all of those involved in making "commercial" gay pornographic movies began as amateurs in a field that had virtually never existed before, either as art or commerce. The gay porn film industry grew dramatically during the next thirty years and transformed the way men—gay men in particular—conceived of masculinity and their sexuality. Bigger Than Life tells that story. For more information, CLICK HERE.
Back in 1974, the sexual revolution was in full swing and the adult entertainment business was on the verge of becoming Big Business. Deep Throat had created America's first porn star in 1972, but by 1974 Linda Lovelace was already retired and the industry was seeking the next big thing. Vanessa del Rio should have been that thing, except in 1974 there were no ethnic sex stars. Undeterred, Vanessa took any role they'd give her, because, amazingly, she was there for the sex more than the money. Fans, awed by her ferocious onscreen sexuality, made her a top box office draw and America's first Latina star. Retired since 1986, Vanessa del Rio remains a sexual icon who cuts across all ethnic boundaries. What her fans don't know is that her real life was, and is, as wild as anything she did on film.
