In the News :: Keith Olbermann Relishes Return as MSNBC Lifts Suspension

Keith Olbermann returned to the airwaves last night after being suspended by MSNBC on Friday for donating to three Democratic candidates. The Countdown with Keith Olbermann host learned of the suspension lift on Sunday night.

Phil Griffin (president of MSNBC TV): "I have determined that suspending Keith through and including Monday night's program is an appropriate punishment for his violation of our policy. We look forward to having him back on the air Tuesday night."

Olbermann released a letter that explained his side of the scandal.

Here's an excerpt:

I was suspended without a hearing, and learned of that suspension through the media.
You should also know that I did not attempt to keep any of these political contributions secret; I knew they would be known to you and the rest of the public. I did not make them through a relative, friend, corporation, PAC or any other intermediary, and I did not blame them on some kind of convenient 'mistake' by their recipients…I immediately volunteered to explain all this, on air and off, in the fashion MSNBC desired.

In the News :: Keith Olbermann Suspended "Indefinitely Without Pay" by MSNBC for Campaign Donations

Keith Olbermann has been suspended "indefinitely without pay" by MSNBC for making campaign donations to three Democratic candidates. The host of Countdown with Keith Olbermann gave the maximum legal contribution ($2,400) to Arizona congressman Raul Grijalva, Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and Kentucky attorney general Jack Conway.

Phil Griffin (MSNBC President): "I became aware of Keith's political contributions late last night. Mindful of NBC News policy and standards, I have suspended him indefinitely without pay."

Per MSNBC policy, political donations are only allowed if the person doing so has obtained permission from the president of MSNBC News.

Olbermann issued this statement:

One week ago, on the night of Thursday October 28 2010, after a discussion with a friend about the state of politics in Arizona, I donated $2,400 each to the reelection campaigns of Democratic Representatives Raul Grijalva and Gabrielle Giffords. I also donated the same amount to the campaign of Democratic Senatorial candidate Jack Conway in Kentucky.

MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts will host Countdown this evening.

Since the Thanksgiving holiday was right around the corner ... Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin pardoned turkeys earlier last week ... and after the ceremony she took questions from the media ...

What she didn't know is that directly behind her ... in full view of the camera ... turkeys were getting slaughtered as she answered the questions ...

The footage became fodder for pundits, bloggers and newscasters ...
