Papi Chulo's BLOG proudly presents an exclusive interview series titled "In Bed with Papi Chulo." This series will feature the hottest stars in mainstream and adult media.
Standing at 5 feet 5 inches ... and full of sexual stamina ... Steve Cruz has made a name for himself in the short time he's been in the gay porn industry ... A consummate "sex pig" ... he has starred for some of the hottest directors ... In 2007 ... Steve landed himself a contract gig with one of the leading powerhouse production companies in gay porn ... Raging Stallion Studios ...
His hard work certainly hasn't gone unnoticed ... The folks at Raging Stallion named Steve their 2008 Raging Stallion Man of the Year ... Calling him the "perfect slut pig porn star" ...
I sat down with Steve Cruz to chat about how he got into the porn industry ... how he became a Raging Stallion Exclusive ... His experience working on the blockbuster GRUNTS ... and his "How I Roll" charitable effort ...
PC: How did you get involved with the industry?
SC: I was scouted. A friend of mind ... Brian Mills at Titan ... had been trying to get me in front of the camera for years, I was never ready. Then in 2006, I got a great offer from Raging Stallion -- a two picture deal, Lords of the Jungle and Mirage, which would allow me to travel. Once I signed the deal, I went back to Titan and told him I was ready. They liked that I had experience when I came to them. It worked out well.
PC: What was your first day on a porn set like? And for what movie was the scene for?
SC: I was on the big island of Hawaii ... in a jungle. There were mosquitoes everywhere so we all had tons of bug spray on. Apart from the taste of bug spray every now and then the scene was smokin' hot for me! I was a little nervous because so much was riding on my performance, two movies! But I did well. My scene partner was hunk Blake Nolan so how could I have a bad time?
PC: How did you get involved with Raging Stallion Studios?
SC: Chris Ward offered me my first deal. He officially discovered me. Then later when I was ready to settle down with one studio he offered me an exclusive contract. RSS is a great studio to work with, I am glad they were willing to sign me after working with all the studios.
PC: So ... If I've gathered correctly ... You initially were not an exclusive for RSS ... How did that change occur?
SC: Well I wanted to work with a lot of studios at first. Mainly because of specific directors I admired: Chi Chi LaRue, Brian Mills, Steven Scarborough. But once I did that, I realized being an exclusive is better for an actor like me. And like I said Raging is the best fit!
PC: Prior to being an exclusive to RSS ... You worked with some of the biggest companies in the business: All Worlds Video, TITAN Media ... Mustang and Hot House Entertainment. Are there any particular features from those studios that stand out? and ... Are there any memorable backstage stories?
SC: I had a great time on the set with Brian Mills, he's family. And François Sagat is one of my favorite performers so it was a dream come true. Chi Chi has become like family. Filming Link was a blast ... I got to explore my fetish on camera, it was a total thrill. Latin stud Joe Strong and I get really verbal when he's fucking me. He's a tough fucker! And he's trying to tame me ... but I wont be tamed. We get so loud yelling at one another that Chi Chi has to stop the scene because you can't hear her direct! She's yelling ... "SHUT UUUUUP, SHUT THE FUCK UP! CUT CUT!" ... it was classic!
PC: So now ... your ass (and dick) is exclusively with RSS. Since you have experienced both sides of the fence ... What (in your opinion) are the pros and cons of being a contract performer vs. a free agent?
SC: As a free Agent you have a chance to work more if that's what you want to do, be in more films. But in time as you work the rounds, studios want something special and in time you get fewer special parts. And you have to advocate for yourself and manage your own career. As an exclusive you work less, but you have a chance to be in the bigger films and have a starring role. Plus, the studio takes care of managing you and your appearances ... which is great. The one exception to this has been my relationship with Chi Chi. From day one she's treated me like a top star, which is rare for a non-exclusive. I am so glad to be a RSS man, and I also I miss working with her.
SC: My current contract runs from April 2007-May 2009.
PC: This year ... Raging Stallion named you their 2008 Man of the Year. When did you first hear that you were blessed with this esteemed recognition? and how does it feel to be named the 2008 Raging Stallion Man of the Year?
SC: It's a dream come true. I really wanted it! And I continue to work hard in hopes that I live up to the title.
SC: Nothing beats Mirage for me! I had my first leading role, it was almost a total away shoot which I love ... Hawaii, Palm Springs. Some of the hottest men I have ever worked with with all a part of the movie. I met my friend Dirk Jager on the shoot and got to work with Hussein. We even got to fly a plane. It was a fun time! But I think I will have a new favorite come February when we shoot my screenplay -- "Hotter Than Hell". This one is my baby!
PC: In your opinion ... what would be an ideal scene that you would star in?
SC: You'll have to watch Hotter Than Hell in the Summer of 2008. I wrote the story and I star in the film. It's better to show you than tell you!
SC: That depends on the partners. One on one is always great because you can concentrate your passion to one person and really connect. But being a slut pig I can never get enough ... especially in scenes like Mirage where the cast is all uncut guys ... LINE EM UP! The cool thing about the way Chris Ward directs, group scenes have little concentrated scenes where two people focus, like a one on one ... so you get best of both. Hot action and hot connection.
PC: Let's talk about GRUNTS. Which has got to be one of the biggest (if not the biggest) porn productions by a gay porn studios. I mean epic doesn't even sum up what this movie (trilogy) is. I have had the chance to see it and it is bloody brilliant. I mean it's as if a Hollywood blockbuster merged with gay porn. You had some pretty intense scenes. Tell me a little about the filming of this massive project. You were definitely the star of the "Brothers in Arms" section.
SC: Yeah it was a huge movie and we worked our asses off ... for the sex scenes and the non-sexual army boot camp scenes. The boot camp was the hardest for me because it didn't come naturally. I tried hard to be convincing and not look like a corny porn star on the training field. I think I succeeded, much to my surprise! Ricky Sinz really helped to keep me in character. The sex scenes ... I really hit my stride on this film. As a top and a bottom. And I broke new ground, like my scene with Max Schutler and the beer bottles. Or my solo ... I really gave my all!
SC: Every thing you see about me on screen, happens off screen at some point. Of course I am a versatile bottom at my best ... which is good because I feel it's what my audience wants to see. Off screen I top more but I am happiest on the bottom, and in life I am much more oral than anal. Now when I find that perfect cock, the perfect fit ... then I can't decide where I want to stuff it first. But if he's uncut, I prefer to serve him with oral before he gets near my ass ... most likely he'll have to cum a few times before I ever let him fuck me. I'm a greedy cock sucker for extra skin!
PC: Describe your ideal screen partner.
SC: Someone who's not only sexy but also a great performer, who plays off my performance. Someone who wants to do something memorable and play outside the box. He spits, he pisses and he fucks ... he really dominates me but he's also passionate and from time to time even sweet, but always masculine. I have a passion for pale European guys ... lately I have been craving blondes.
SC: I am saving a few things for my 40s. It would suck to be bored with sex before you fully lived right? On my list this year is fisting. I have never really enjoyed fisting a guy, but this year I intend to really enjoy being a top! Then I want to try Sounding. Then later double penetration as a bottom. And lastly I want to find a man who I really admire, a best friend of sorts ... not a life partner or "husband" ... just a great and loyal friend who I can explore intimacy and new sexual experiences with without the stress of a traditional relationship.
PC: Do you get into any kinds of fetishes?
SC: I like light bondage sometimes, foreskin and piss ... a hot daddy gets me off from time to time. Tattoos ...
SC: Thanks! Well I set up the blog to keep my fans up to date on my movies and travels. After GRUNTS wrapped there was a quiet period where I had little to talk about so I changed the format of my blog to keep it interesting. I made it more about the relationship between me and my fans. A fan "hired" me to grow a beard for him for several months so the "Beard Blog" was about that. I just finished work on my 3rd major tattoo and so the "Ink Blog" has been about that process. You'll have to keep watching to see what I do next!
SC: Am I? (LOL) I hope not. I hope my fans love me for me and not the image of me. My performances make me a star, but my heart makes me a simple man. I hope that comes through to those who admire me and I hope my guys don't lose that perspective. I love to entertain but at the end of the day I just a guy like you ... I'm human.
PC: Something quite honorable that you are doing ... is the "How I Roll" campaign and charitable efforts. Please tell me more about how you got involved in this.
SC: Well there is a lot of bareback porn out there these days. Having lost dear friends to HIV, I just have a hard time understanding why we've become so relaxed about safer sex. New HIV transmissions are on the rise and I just wanted to do my part. I built the site and partnered with organizations that could help spread the word. I did it on my own without financial support. It's almost a full time job! But it's my passion. If I can stop one young man from sero-converting this year ... then it makes all of it worth it! If I can help change the perspective of what is hot to include safer sex ... then I've succeeded!
PC: I have to give you mad props. The "How I Roll" website is fantastic ... I love how you are getting the gay adult industry to support this commendable effort. I also couldn't help but notice that there will be an official "Steve Cruz condom" ... How did that come about? And you have go to tell me ... is it a turn on to know that when someone's about to have sex ... they will be staring at your face (pretty much) right before penetrating a gaping hole? (LOL)
SC: Yeah sure!!! To be in bed with guys all over the world ... simultaneously. I never thought of that but sure it's hot! The real deal is the condom is the promotional tool to get guys to go to the site and learn the facts and I want guys to play safe. Right now we're negotiating the condom and its distribution. How many condoms and how wide the distribution is determined by donations and funding at this point. The condoms will be free, right now its just local distribution in San Francisco ... but I want to supply several cities. Custom condoms are expensive. I have a lot of work ahead to reach my goal.
SC: I don't have a plan, but I would like to direct and produce a movie or series of movies. I am hoping the work I do on 'Hotter than Hell' will be the first step. I have filmed and edited a feature on the GRUNTS DVD. It's a fascinating business, I hope to have a hand in it off-camera after Steve Cruz has made his mark as a performer.
SC: South Park. Nip/Tuck. Sarah Silverman Program. Heroes. Grey's Anatomy.
PC: McDonald's Big Mac or Burger King's Whopper?
PC: Disney or Warner Bros?
SC: Warner Bros.
PC: What's your favorite color?
SC: Right now ... Kelly Green.
PC: What's your favorite sexual position?
PC: What's your favorite curse word?
PC: If you could be anywhere right now ... Where would you be?
SC: Laying on a beach somewhere tropical ... Tahiti would be sweet.
PC: So that pretty much has brought us to the close of our interview session. Is there anything you want to tell your fans?
SC: I appreciate all of you. Really, a fan is not an just simply an admirer though its great to be admired -- for the right reasons. When I can, it's a great experience to connect with you guys as individuals. Thanks for your support ... and stay in touch through my websites and blog: SteveCruzXXX.com, fan club and howiroll.info.
